Music theory is important to musicians of all disciplines and levels. Students of music theory study such things as sound, pitch, harmony, rhythm, notation, and melody. Some individuals are intimidated by the term “music theory.” They feel music theory is too mechanical and burdened with rules and regulations created by others. Often they feel drawn to simply experiment and create and, as a result, may feel imprisoned by the need to learn such things as scales, intervals, and chords.

Technology is a key part of today’s music world. Advancements in music printing, instrument design, computers, DVD technology, music schoolDI synthesizers, and the Internet combine to have a powerful effect on the way we make music. Today’s musicians face a world in which technology is present and necessary in most areas of the music industry as well as the world at large. Those lacking music technology skills are at serious disadvantage when it comes to competing for jobs in their music disciplines.

We at a music school are proud to provide interested students with our Film Institute of Technology (Film IT) program. Our six-month (30 credit hour) program is designed to help those interested in the creation of music videos and commercials learn and practice the skills required to do so. Film IT students gain valuable knowledge of both the creative and technical skills needed to successfully merge music and film.
