Music theory is important to musicians of all disciplines and levels. Students of music theory study such things as sound, pitch, harmony, rhythm, notation, and melody. Some individuals are intimidated by the term “music theory.” They feel music theory is too mechanical and burdened with rules and regulations created by others. Often they feel drawn to simply experiment and create and, as a result, may feel imprisoned by the need to learn such things as scales, intervals, and chords.
